Computer Technology In The Cockpit
Data Storage and Retrieval You can not see it - but its there. An invisible infrared beam, from the GEM face to the Palm Top computer, that transfers stored critical information. It takes just a minute or so a month. But what an important minute. With the power of a small computer in your hands and the GEMCOM Software you are able to view the uncompressed data that you have just downloaded from the GEM. Temperatures are captured every six seconds during engine operation. This acquired data can easily be transferred to your PC and graphically displayed with off-the-shelf programs, such as Excel®, Lotus® 1-2-3, which makes generating graphs easy and fun. Once the graph is created to your satisfaction, it can be printed to a compatible printer (or stored for later reference). The finished product can be given to your mechanic, sent to engine manufacture for analysis or simply stored away. In addition, with built-in standard features or add-on packages, this powerful computer is small enough to fit into your flight bag yet carry other important information such as schedules, phone numbers, flight planning and much more. How to create GEM Icon on HP 200LX - Palmtop To create Icon GEM on HP 200LX - Palmtop go to Icon desktop push F2 Name: &GEM Path: C:\GEM\GEMCOM.EXE | Tab down to Icon. Then push F10 F7 to arrange icon ( put in upper left with directional keys ) Then push enter.
The logging of engine temperature data on a routine basis permits the creation of a complete history; a detailed record for future reference. Whether you've installed a new engine, verifying assumptions about engine performance or simply checking the operation by others, the GEM data logging feature is invaluable. The RAMcard provides easy memory expansion and datafile storage for the HP computer. The lithium back-up battery should be replaced annually to prevent loss of data or programs. |
